During the weekend shopping trip, I bought a jigsaw puzzle to gift to the kids in hopes of bringing them joy. When we got home, the children eagerly opened the puzzle and invited me to join in. Soon, the puzzle was only missing two pieces to be completed. At this point, the two kids each held one piece of the puzzle and began to play with it happily around. However, I became engrossed in the game, focused solely on finishing the puzzle quickly and experiencing the joy of completion. My inner frustration grew. Seeing my reaction, the children hurriedly abandoned their puzzle pieces, scattering them around, and the atmosphere of happiness vanished instantly. It was at that moment that I suddenly awakened. Why did something enjoyable turn into something painful?
I often hear people say that staying in the present moment can maintain happiness. I never thought that a single thought (completing the puzzle) could make me depart from the present moment (the process of solving the puzzle) and transport me into the future. When my expectations didn't align with reality, feelings of distress emerged, and the moment of joy disappeared. Thinking about this, I finally understood what it means to live in the present moment, why it's important to do so, and how to live in the now...
