A young person sat under the tree, taking a rest, and began chatting with the big tree.
Young Person: You look so lush and green. How long have you been here?
Big Tree: I've been here for 50 years.
Young Person: For such a long time, have you experienced anything interesting?
Big Tree: Watching the joys and sorrows of people, their happiness and sadness, is quite interesting.
Young Person: Finding amusement in others' pain? Shouldn't you feel sad?
Big Tree: I don't know what pain is, how could I know what happiness is? Pain is the beginning of happiness, just like when people reach the bottom, every step they take afterward is uphill.
Young Person: You've endured countless harsh winters and scorching summers here, what do you feel?
Big Tree: For me, everything contributes to my growth. The rain nourishes me, the sun provides energy for my growth, strong winds and heavy rain make my body stronger, and harsh winters and heavy snow temper my will. I'm delighted!
Young Person: If there's another life, would you prefer to be a person or a tree again?
Big Tree: Either is fine. If I become a person, I hope to retain the awareness of the tree and be a conscious person.
Young Person: Thank you for the enlightenment!
Big Tree: You're welcome!
